Touring The Kent-Delorde House Museum

Next Tuesday, when we return to work from the Labor Day weekend there will only be a few days left until the start of the battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend which begins Thursday evening at Riverside Cemetery here in Plattsburgh..  One of the highlights of the weekend for re-enactors includes the encampment on the lawn at the Kent DeLord House Museum.. Which is where we caught up with the Museum’s Director, Don Wickman… Actually, we’re in a barn, which is on the property right behind the main house..

We spent some time with Don Wickman on Thursday and talked history, geneology, The kent DeLorde House Museum’s participation in the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration.. And he was kind enough to give us a tour of the Museum…  Join us Tuesday, after the Labor Day Weekend for the K&J show here on WNBZ and we’ll take a tour of the museum and talk more about the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration.

K&J – Touring the Battle of Plattsburgh Museum

BOP 01The Allan S. Everest Interpretive Center is a permanent exhibit located within the War of 1812 Museum on Washington Rd on the Museum Campus. The exhibits chronologically recount the events of the battles at Plattsburgh within the context of the War of 1812: the political and economical causes of the war; the land and naval engagements at Plattsburgh; and the significant role that the battles here played in the final peace negotiations. It’s just a small portion of Part Two of our tour of the Museum ( Click the Play Bar to listen )

The exhibits are “anchored” by a 5’x15′ diorama and an interactive scale model of the village and surrounding area as it was in 1814. The diorama provides the visitor with an aerial view of the 30,000-acre battlefield, the British and American encampments, the forts and batteries, and the culminating land and naval battles of September 11th, 1814.

CCHA Awarded New Book and School Outreach Grant

The Board of Trustees and staff of the Clinton County Historical Association (CCHA) is pleased to announce the award of an Education and Outreach Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership (CVNHP) totaling $7,500.

The CCHA will use these funds to create a four part educational outreach program for elementary schools and to also support the publication of a new book. For the Elementary Educational Outreach Program, the CCHA will partner with staff at the Saranac Elementary school to create a series of local history programs for 4th graders. Move in Weekend at SUNY Plattsburgh

It’s move in weekend for SUNY Plattsburgh’s Class of 2019 and close to 1,000 freshman students along with even more returning students arrive back on campus..

Residence halls open for new, transfer and returning students beginning at 8 a.m. this Saturday Residence Life tells us that RAs will be on hand to welcome students to their halls and to help direct them and their families to their rooms and give them information on activities planned for opening week.

Staff members will be in the Housing and Residence Life Office, which is in Room 103 in Algonquin Hall, through the entire weekend.. 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to answer any questions incoming students may have about their room assignments and residence life. SUNY Plattsburgh Restricts Smoking to Parking Lots

Tobacco use on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus is now restricted to a limited number of designated parking lots. The SUNY Plattsburgh Tobacco Restricted Campus Policy took effect Aug. 15th and includes all tobacco and tobacco-derived products intended for human consumption, including but not limited to: tobacco and clove cigarettes, cigars, pipes, hookah-smoked products, bidis, kreteks, electronic cigarettes or “vapes,” smokeless tobacco or “chew,” and snus. It does not include cessation products specifically approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in treating nicotine or tobacco dependence.

According to Bryan Hartman, vice president for student affairs, the policy applies to all members of the college community, including faculty, staff, students, volunteers, trainees, consultants, contracted staff, vendors, guests and visitors. “The policy does not imply that individuals must quit using tobacco products, It implies that they must restrict the use of those products to the designated locations.
