“People for Positive Action” Rally in Plattsburgh for Iran Nuclear Agreement

Participants in a rally to support the Iran Nuclear agreement with the US gathered across the street from Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s Office on Durkee street in Plattsburgh on Wednesday afternoon… The group calls themselves People for Positive Action and were participating in the rally as part of a national day of support for the agreement involving a coalition of peace groups… Rita Ann Fitzgerald in one of the participants in the rally.. she says they’ve signed petitions along with others in Congresswoman Stefanik’s district asking her to vote in favor of the deal.. “If five of the countries are so in favor of it the United States should be as well.” Fitzgerald tells WNBZ. Jim King Lives in Cadyville, he came to the rally for peace to support the effort of the group to ask Congresswoman Stefanik to vote in favor of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the United States.

Which began earlier this year in order to protect the owners from foreclosure by their bank, and by the City who had scheduled the property to be put up for auction…

For an understanding of the impact of the proceedings on taxpayers in the City of Plattsburgh we asked Mayor Jim Calnon to give us his perspective on some of the available options….

We spoke with Mayor Calnon about College Suites Thursday afternoon in his offices at City Hall… College Suites built the Student Apartments on Broad Street right next to the SUNY Plattsburgh Campus.. And they’re coming closer to the conclusion of their bankruptcy proceedings.. As you heard the Court has asked creditors for an up or down vote on their plan but the bankruptcy judge is not bound by that input..  In the City’s case, Mayor Calnon says it would be good for the city and the taxpayer if College Suites were to be able to emerge from bankruptcy and begin paying their taxes on a regular basis..  As for the assessment from the earlier years of the project..  That’s also yet to be determined  and may have an impact on the 5 year payout by Plattsburgh Suites to the City which is now estimated at $750,000.00
