Here's who's going in this year.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2024 inductees during Sunday night’s episode of “American Idol” on ABC, adding eight new performers to its ranks. Those getting in are: the Dave Matthews Band, winner of the public vote for a second year; Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne; and A Tribe Called Quest. In addition to the public ballot the inductees were selected by a voting body of music industry professionals and historians. Four of the inductees — Cher (who has previously said she will not accept the honor), Foreigner, Peter Frampton and Kool & the Gang — were nominated for the first time this year.
The 2024 induction ceremony will take place on October 19 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland and stream live on Disney+. It will be available on Hulu the following day and aired as an edited special on ABC at a later date.
Also being honored on that the ceremony will be: Jimmy Buffett, Dionne Warwick (who’d been nominated twice before), MC5 (nominated six times prior) and Motown songwriter Norman Whitefield with the Rock Hall’s Music Excellence Award category; Big Mama Thornton and British bluesmen Alexis Korner and John Mayall with the Musical Influence Award; and longtime Motown executive Suzanne de Passe with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Artists are eligible for Rock Hall nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording. The first Rock Hall induction ceremony was held during January of 1986 in New York City.
