There are over one billion pet dogs worldwide...but could these pups have an impact on the environment? Research from Curtin University found that our best friends could be disrupting wildlife by causing other animals to keep their distance. Birds tend to leave nests when a dog walks by, and other animals avoid areas carrying a dog scent. Chemicals in flea medications can also wash into waterways. "The environmental impact of owned dogs is far greater, more insidious, and more concerning than is generally recognized," researchers Bill Bateman and Lauren Gilson said. (Study Finds)
