Researchers from Azusa Pacific University took a look into the science behind "the ick." "The Ick" is the term for when you're into someone...and then they do something you find off-putting, and the infatuation dies. Scientists found that most icky responses "reflect aversions to superficial or socially reinforced cues with little bearing on compatibility or mate quality." Women often get the ick if they see a man displaying feminine behaviors or embarrassing themselves. Men seem averse to women who try to be overly trendy or use irritating speech patterns. Perfectionists tend to get the ick more easily. 26% of study participants said they have ended a relationship immediately after getting the ick, and 42% called it quits a little bit later.
