A corrections officer at Altona Correctional Facility was violently assaulted by an inmate, suffering head and facial injuries. The officer activated her alarm, and another inmate intervened, restraining the attacker until staff arrived. The officer received hospital treatment, and an investigation into the assault is underway, with potential involvement from multiple law enforcement agencies. DOCCS officials emphasize that those committing crimes within their facilities will be prosecuted.
