A regular NY drivers license will be limited as an instrument of identification.
In less than two weeks a standard NY license will no longer be an accepted form of ID to fly domestically. A REAL ID, Enhanced License or other acceptable form of identification will be needed. To get a REAL ID federal law requires specific documents to prove ones identity and a new photograph must be taken. As the deadline is growing closer, the NY DMV strongly encourages state residence to make a reservation before visiting the local office. The reservation can be made online but the rest of the process needs to be completed at a DMV office.
