Fired Correction Officers may now seek employment with government entities statewide.
On Wednesday, Governor Kathy Hochul revoked rules banning the hiring of fired correction officers by government agencies in New York. According to Senator Dan Stec, the state budget director said it's costing NY $100-Million a month to keep the National Guard in correctional facilities while it would only be abut $20-Million a month to bring back the fired officers. Meanwhile, Assemblyman Billy Jones said the fastest way to prevent a brewing crisis at the state facilities is to rehire correction officers who are willing to return.
