The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is encouraging eligible residents to take advantage of its free Taxpayer Assistance Program before the April 15 filing deadline. Certified staff will help taxpayers with federal and state tax returns through virtual sessions, available on March 26, April 2, and 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Taxpayers with a federal adjusted gross income of $84,000 or less and investment income of $11,600 or less qualify for this assistance. To participate, individuals must have basic computer skills, an active email account, and all necessary tax documents. Those who don't qualify for the program may still be eligible for other free e-filing options like Direct File and Free File through the state’s website.
