16% drop in Canadian visitors and over 40% of tour groups canceled, as the area grapples with the ongoing trade conflict.
The North Country Chamber of Commerce has announced a significant downturn in Canadian tourism due to the ongoing trade war, with a 16% decrease in visitation last month. Over 40% of scheduled tour groups have been canceled, impacting local businesses that rely on cross-border tourism. In response, the Adirondack Coast team is rolling out new initiatives, including bilingual signage and Canadian flags, to encourage local businesses to attract more visitors from Canada. Local officials are also worried about the strain on the regional economy, particularly for small businesses and hotels. Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman voiced strong concerns about the negative impact on the tourism sector. Additionally, members of the Franklin County Legislature are scheduled to meet with Canadian officials in Ontario next month to discuss the challenges. Via WPTZ.
