A proposed law in California has a shocking name: The "Luigi Mangione Access to Health Care Act." If passed, the initiative would prevent insurers from delaying, denying, or modifying medical procedures recommended by a doctor, "where the delay, denial, or medication could result in disability, death, amputation, permanent disfigurement, loss or reduction of any bodily function." While the title has drawn criticism because laws are usually named for victims, not alleged criminals, litigator Paul Eisner stands by the name. "Sometimes things require publicity," he said. He also says he does not support Mangione's alleged acts. "People are tired of carriers, of insurance companies denying them health care," he explained. The ballot is open for public comment until April 25th. (newser)
