600 acres burned over the weekend after a Long Island family attempted to make S'mores, police report. Authorities say the brush fires that ravaged eastern Long Island can actually be traced to one Manorville backyard. Commissioner Kevin Catalina said the family members used a piece of cardboard to start the fire, which soon spread out of control. "It is believed that the embers from each fire traveled and continuously started more fires," he said. A burn ban is now in place for Long Island, New York City, and the Hudson Valley. (newser)
